The first ever "Boogie on Low Beach" was held at the Siasconset home of George A. Cloutier and Tiffany Spadafora on July 23, 2004. The event was a "fun" raiser for two important causes: Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Hospice Care of Nantucket Foundation.
Several honorees - all cancer survivors - shared their own personal stories of struggle and survival. Guests enjoyed a huge array of delicious gourmet food and cocktails under three tents that could barely contain all the festivities.
Initially, the goal for "Boogie on Low Beach" was to raise $100,000 and entertain 300 guests. The turnout was more than 600 guests, raising nearly $400,000, almost four times the original goal.
2004's honorees included Dr. Richard Buechel, Susan Hostetler, Michael Kitteridge, Suzy Root, Bobby and Pam Sylvia and Edythe Travelstead.
